Congratulations to the SCWC Notable Book Award winners

The winners of the inaugural SCWC Notable Book Awards were announced and recognized on Feb. 1 at the Southern Christian Book Expo in Birmingham.

The award recognizes outstanding books in four different categories--self-published fiction, self-published nonfiction, traditionally published fiction, and traditionally published nonfiction. The books were selected from submissions to the contest, which is sponsored by the Southern Christian Writers Conference; staff members of the SCWC selected the three finalists in each category, and independent judges then selected each winner.

The books were judged on quality of writing and inspirational message delivered. The winners each received a certificate, cash prize, free admission to next year's Book Expo, and promotional materials to share their win.

The winners (and their respective books) are:

Self-published fiction: Stephanie Bain, The Girl I Left Behind

Self-published nonfiction: Doug Smith, [Un]intentional

Traditionally published fiction: Ramona Richards, Murder in the Family

Traditionally published nonfiction: Lisa Worthey Smith and Thanh Duong Boyer, The Ground Kisser

We were so pleased to recognize these authors in the debut year of the awards, and look forward to more wonderful submissions and winners next year!
